Meh-dell-in? Meh-DEE-in? Meh-deh-YEEN?
North American cinema has historically not painted Colombia in the most...uh…wholesome of lights. This leads many USA travelers to be wary of the area (Hi, mom!). Once infamous for dangerous gangs and drug activity, Medellin has been transformed into a vibrant destination for travelers and businesspeople alike. In February 2013, the Urban Land Institute chose Medellín as the most innovative city in the world due to its recent advances in politics, education and social development. In the same year, Medellín was announced as the preferred corporate business destination in South America. (See mom? I’ll be fine)
Nestled on the floor of a narrow valley, its natural beauty makes a perfect setting for hiking, zip-lining and horseback riding. This bustling city by the jungle has earned the nickname “the City of Eternal Spring,” which I’d be lying if I said didn't sound appealing. I look forward to meeting the locals, taking in the breathtaking scenery, and getting my fix of Colombian coffee (obviously) throughout the course of this month, as well as the next.
